Having wall art that you love in your bedroom completely changes how you feel when you’re in your room. And I am a wall art fanatic, so I put together this guide of “how to get the best bedroom wall art” (best can be a strong word, but I’m dishing out all of my top tips here). I’ll include links throughout so that it’s easy for you to shop if you want to!

This is my step by step process for getting the best bedroom wall art. From deciding what colors your wall art is to choosing a layout for hanging up your wall art, I walk with you through each step of the process so that you don’t get stuck.
This post is all about how to get the best bedroom wall art.
Step #1: Pick key colors for your bedroom wall art
You don’t have to stick to a strict color palette when you’re choosing wall art, but it can be super helpful to know what you want the key colors to be. Then when you’re browsing different options, you can sort through them more easily based on what you want for your bedroom.
Color is the best place to start, at least it always is for me. I love color, and I love pulling lots of different colors together to create a cohesive but surprising space. Things can get so dull when there are only neutrals or when you stick to traditional color combinations. I love being playful with color because it’s just who I am!
This mood board for my own bedroom doesn’t even have any wall art in it (other than what’s already hung up in my room). I know that I want to add in more wall art, but in order to do that, I wanted to ZOOM OUT. Starting with color helps me zoom out and envision how I want to feel in my room, and how I want it to look with all of the different pieces speaking to one another.
Now I have a great jumping off point to dive into the specifics of what I want. It already is becoming clear to me that I want more WARM TONES in my room. Something red, orange, pink, or a combination of those in a beautiful shade that will complement all of the blue and gray tones that are already in my room.
It’s so much easier to find what you’re looking for when you know WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR!!! Haha โ it seems so obvious, but this process hasn’t always been obvious for me. Color is such a great gateway to figure out what wall art you want.
Step #2: Decide if you want to do a gallery wall โ you don’t have to, but it can be a simple way to get lots of beautiful art up on your walls
If you want to put your wall art above your bed, you need to consider doing a gallery wall. Gallery walls are such a great way to showcase SO MUCH GORGEOUS WALL ART.
One thing that is not so fun about gallery walls is the LOGISTICS. Ew. But that’s exactly why I did the dirty work for you. I know, I’m the best (lol). I made these gallery wall templates with 5 of my favorite gallery wall layouts (measurements and all) so that you can make a gallery wall at home without the stress.
Here’s a sneak peek of one of the templates:

It’s literally as easy as following a recipe (easier, really) because you hang everything up in the formation it says, and you’re done!
I’ve been itching to do a gallery wall myself, but I know that my bedroom isn’t the right space for it. Given the wall art that I already have and love, there isn’t a good space for a gallery wall. And that’s ok!! You don’t have to force it if it’s not going to work for you.
Gallery walls can instantly elevate a space and are so much fun to put together. Especially when you use templates, you can focus on the fun stuff instead of the annoying stuff. But you can still make your wall art look beautiful in your bedroom without doing a gallery wall. It’s not the end all be all.
Step #3: Determine what dimensions will best suit your space
Bigger is better! Go as large as you can with the limitations of your space. Large frames and large wall art will make your bedroom feel bigger and will create a beautiful focal point in your room.
I know it’s so annoying to have to whip out your measuring tape, but checking what will actually fit now will save you so much time later. Eyeball measurements at your own risk!
Step #4: Pick out wall art for your bedroom walls (this is the fun part!)
Yayyy! Time for the fun part.
Look, shop where you want, but there is one EXTRA SPECIAL PLACE YOU CAN SHOP.
The Garland Collections Art Shop!! Hehe. Here’s my most popular print, the cutie Mushroom Patch 1 (goes quite swimmingly with Mushroom Patch 2 โ shockingly enough).

I also love shopping on Etsy and finding different sellers on there. Lately I have been obsessed with April Lane Art on Etsy, and I am super excited cuz I’m planning to hang up one of her prints right next to one of my prints on a wall in my room this week.
Getting original artwork is my favorite because you can connect with the artist more and feel like there’s a story behind the art on your walls. Wall art from a mass produced store like Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters isn’t a bad thing, but it feels less personal to me. I definitely prefer shopping from artists, and it’s not always more expensive to do that (like a lot of people assume it is).
For example, everything in my shop is hand drawn and under $10! And there are so many other affordable options beyond that, too.
Step #5: Make sure you have frames that fit your wall art
You double checked to see what frames will fit your wall, and now it’s time to cross check that with the frames your wall art calls for. If you use a digital art print from my shop, it can fit in any size frame because it comes as a zip file with 5 different sizes (that fit the most common frame ratios).
But if you’re getting a piece of art that physically ships to you, it’s important to make sure that you have a frame that fits it. The frame itself can be bigger, but the matte inside needs to be the same dimensions as the art you picked out.
Anyway, I feel like I’m making this all sound more complicated than it is. This step is easy! If you need to buy a new frame, I love shopping at Target for frames because they have cute ones that are also very affordable.
If you’re using the gallery wall templates, there are suggestions in pink written into each gallery wall layout so that you know the ~ideal~ frame size for each frame in your gallery wall. But if you have to change it up to suit your space, do it!
Step #6: Place your art in your frames
This is pretty straightforward. But if you have any trouble with your art prints sliding around in the frame, use masking tape to gently adhere the back of the artwork to the matte in your frame. Then it will stay in place when you put the back of the frame on.
Step #7: Hang everything up and enjoy how great your bedroom looks!
Woohoo!!! YOU DID IT. Now it’s time to make things permanent and take out a hammer and a nail to get your frames hung up (Command strips work, too).
This is my step by step process for finding the best bedroom wall art and getting it all hung up. I know how it feels to procrastinate on projects like this or get stuck in the middle, which is exactly why I use this method to help get me going when I feel stuck or need help getting some momentum. I hope it helps you, too!
