As you look through these different inspiration photos, ask yourself: to you, what makes a bedroom cozy? I’ve been thinking about this a lot while curating inspiration for you and will be sharing some of my tips along the way. This post is about cozy bedroom inspiration.
1. Layered & classic
Apart from this photo just being really cool, this room is captivatingly cozy. The paneled walls with a dark green color help to create an ambience in the room that feels warm and comfortable. It clearly is getting so much natural light, which helps to balance with the darker wall color.
Tip: part of what makes a bedroom feel cozy is that it can’t feel empty. it’s a fine line between being organized and comfortable.
The pillows, blankets, leather headboard, wall art, and lamps all work together to create a cohesive vibe in this space that makes it feel full while still being clean. You don’t want your space to feel cluttered, but there’s an equal problem with having a space that feels empty. Fill up your bedroom with textures and items that make you feel good, and make sure everything has a place it belongs to help you make sure it doesn’t feel messy.
2. Elegant & comfortable
This velvety headboard is such a statement in this bedroom, and it strikes a gorgeous harmony with the other furniture in the room because they are more casual looking pieces. I love the intentional and clean color choices and the variety of textures.
Tip: Be selective with the textures and materials that you have in your bedroom. For example, An upholstered headboard is usually going to help to create a softer, cozier feel than a wood headboard.
Creating visual layers with different textures helps make a space feel thought out and collected over time. A mohair rug with a thick knit blanket and a ceramic jewelry dish may not all seem like they go perfectly together at first, but when you create those layers in an intentional way you will love the cozy feel it gives to your space.
3. Coastal & peaceful
An area rug is one of the easiest ways to bring in beautiful, cozy textures into your space. Make sure that you choose a rug that’s big enough for your space. Typically, bigger looks better.
Tip: Textiles are one of the easiest ways to bring extra softness and coziness into your space. Whether you add a rug, throw blanket, or fiber wall art to your room, they all will make it feel full of warmth and comfort.
Layering in throw pillows and blankets helps to fill your room with a warm and cozy feeling. Especially if you are working with a smaller space, these are really helpful things to do to make your room feel cozy without taking up any floor space. Choose bedding that makes you feel comfortable and embraces your personal style.
4. Traditional & eclectic
This moody and dark wall color is so inspiring โ it creates such a unique, warm, and cozy environment. It pairs beautifully with the warm wood on the bed frame and the rust colored quilt on the bed.
Tip: Painting your walls a dark and moody color can help to make your bedroom feel cozier. It creates an ambience that feels comfortable, peaceful, and secure.
The wall art in this room also helps to make it feel full of personality. I think that part of what makes a room feel cozy is when it is filled with things that are intentionally placed because they’re meaningful to you.
5. Beautiful & serene
Another dark wall color that I love, and paired with a headboard to match! I think this is such a cool and chic way to approach a cozy bedroom vibe. It might be even more fun with some more eclectic lamps or pillows, too.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to go for a bold look if you love the idea of it. Sometimes going bold with a decor item is an easy and affordable way to make an impact on your space.
Sometimes you need to make a bold move to make your bedroom feel cozier and to make it feel more like you! For more unique bedroom ideas, check out this blog post (one of my favorites I’ve done).
6. Comfy & pretty
The vibes in this room are immaculate. Between the headboard, wallpaper, and bench at the end of the bed, there’s such effortless looking contrast that is eye catching and beautiful. I could imagine this combination with different colors, too, which is a fun brain exercise (haha).
Tip: Use a variety of textures in your space to make it feel cozier. This velvet bench at the end of the bed adds so much to the space.
Creating layers with texture is a key to bedroom coziness. Think of different materials that you love โ velvet, jute, rattan, knits, faux fur, etc. Layer them together and create your own unique look by playing with color and texture. It’s amazing how many unique combinations you can make that will help you express your own style while making your space super comfy.
7. Stylish & simple
This bedroom is a kind of amazing balance of timeless and trendy, which is always fun to see and get inspiration from. One very small detail that I think makes a huge impact on the feel of this space are the shades and curtains on the windows.
Tip: Shades and curtains on your windows really helps to make a room feel cozier. If you have a large space, go for both. Typically in a smaller room I would just do a shade to keep it lighter.
Bare windows, bare walls, bare anything can make a space feel like it needs a little bit of love. Add in curtains to your windows, art to your walls, and place a plant or a catch all dish on your surfaces to help make your space feel full of life.
8. Clean & relaxed
If you have room for an armchair in your bedroom, it is such a great thing to have. It helps to create a little cozy moment in your room apart from your bed. Just imagine how nice it would be to sit there!
Tip: Adding an armchair with a side table or lamp creates a little spot where you can snuggle up and enjoy a book and a cup of tea.
Be sure to throw a blanket over the back of your chair, add a side table or standing lamp or all of the above. These little details make the chair look like it was made for your bedroom, and they make a huge difference.
9. Funky & snug
The blend of funkiness, snuggliness, and classic vibes in this room is almost too much to bear. I really love it! There are so many little details in this that you could take and use for inspo in your own space.
Tip: Don’t shy away from a bit of funk. Not everyone has to love your space, you do! A little detail here or there that is out of your comfort zone.
It may seem counterintuitive, but adding something that’s out of your comfort zone will make your bedroom feel even cozier. The uniqueness and sense of self that you’ll find when you do this gives your room a sense that it’s totally your own.
10. Whimsical & soft
Wallpaper on the ceiling always makes a room feel cozier to me. And wrapping the walls and ceiling in wallpaper is next level. people! So fun. Also, I’m noticing that velvet furniture screams cozy to me. Love this headboard.
Tip: Add a detail on the ceiling โ whether you choose wallpaper or tongue & groove, this detail helps to amplify a cozy feel.
If you’re willing to take a leap of faith, try out wallpaper or tongue & groove (also known as shiplap or paneling, I have no idea what the differences between them all are, so I am not an expert on that). Something on the ceiling gives this special cozy element that’s really thoughtful and elegant.
11. Charming & easy
Make your bedroom your own with little playful elements that show off who you are. Whether it’s a funky and colorful throw pillow or every single item in your room (ok, that sounds really hard to achieve) there’s always a new way to add a little spice to your space.
Tip: add playful elements that show off your personality and your own sense of style.
