Eeeep! YES it’s really happening – the first ever curated Art Collection is here. I could not be more excited to be working with Kayli Balin from studio kb on this collection. Collection 01 by studio kb & Garland Collections includes four unique fiber art designs – you can shop the art here.
This fiber art adds so much to any space that it’s in because of how unique it is. Made from yarn, string, and monks cloth, Kayli’s modern art is essentially a mini handwoven rug wrapped around a wooden canvas. There’s even a metal hook on the back so that it’s easy to hang up on your wall. Its nubby texture is visually appealing, and you can even touch it (which you don’t get to do with art very often!). It is squishy, soft, and lovable.
This post is all about the first ever curated art collection featuring fiber art made by studio kb and curated by Garland Collections. Let’s get into it!
How to style fiber art in your home
Styling fiber art in your home can really elevate your space and give it that wow factor. The thing that makes this fiber art so appealing is that it complements the other art in your space so well. It adds a unique layer of texture that would be so missed otherwise.
If fiber art is something you’re new to, it may feel intimidating to add in – but don’t fear! I felt the same way initially. Honestly, I am on such a journey of self discovery when it comes to aesthetics and style, especially in my own home. It feels like there’s this expectation that we’re all supposed to have that part of ourselves figured out already. But it seems like it would be a more honest conversation if we admitted we’re figuring it out along the way!
This collection speaks to that. It says “you can be part of this side of modern art you didn’t even know about before, and you can make it your own.” These pieces of art will melt into your space like fudge melts into ice cream. You may not have known you needed it, but you’ll be so much happier once it’s there. That’s been my experience at least.
For example, look at how cute these can look in a bookcase! There are many different ways to style this fiber art. It’s easy to hang up on your wall because you don’t need a frame, and you can lean it against something to get this look on a shelf. The versatility is awesome.
Even the littlest slice of wall can become your favorite spot in a room. These little fuzzy squares can sneak in just about anywhere. I love the way that they look above a desk, next to a window, or over a nightstand. This little snippet of wall is above my desk.
Whether it’s in your bookcase, above your desk, or by your bed, I trust you’ll find the perfect spot for your art. Now let’s talk about all of the different designs you can choose from!
Designs from the Art Collection
Collection 01 by studio kb and Garland Collections has four unique designs – it’s always fun to pick out which one is your personal favorite. Mixing and matching is a great option too! I don’t have any photos of two of the same design next to each other, but you could make that look so cute in your space. Here are each of the designs in this curated art collection.
wonky checkers in black & white
This design is timeless and can fit in with a lot of different interior design styles. The iconic black & white combination simply needed a touch of wonkiness to make it quirky and unique. I love the wonky checkers because it’s a play on a classic design in an entirely new medium.
Frankly, having a little bit of wonk in your space is one of the few things I know for sure about design. Wonkiness is what makes a space feel unique, cool, and special. So wonky checkers were an absolute must for this collection! And goodness do I love them.
Another nice thing about this design is how it’s a little bit more high contrast than the rest of the designs in this collection, which balances the collection out as a whole. It also adds an option for something a bit more masculine if that’s what you’re looking for.
This black & white classic design is perfect for you if you’re someone who sticks to neutrals and likes to keep a classic look in your space.
compost in garden
This design is unlike anything you own – Kayli from studio kb describes her method for creating compost pieces as “painting with string.” And that’s what it looks like – an impressionist painting but done with string. Her inspiration for this particular piece was a landscape painting and it turned out looking like a springtime meadow, a garden, and everything that you associate with warm and inviting greens. It’s gorgeous!
Green is the color right now, and for good reason. It works well in any space, and while this is the most colorful piece in the collection, it also is one of the most versatile because of how many different colors it has in it.
Personally, this is my favorite piece in the collection. I think it’s so special and it really speaks to me. It’s one of those things you rarely get the chance to see, much less buy. The idea of enjoying looking at this piece over and over makes my heart swoon. It really is something that you can get lost in because of all of the little details in it.
This colorful piece is perfect for bringing life into your space and adding in an element of fun to a room.
twister in blue & white
This design is so fun and who doesn’t love blue & white? This color combination is one that never goes out of style, and the twister design is one of Kayli’s most iconic designs from studio kb. Together, Kayli and I spent a long time deciding what colors to use for this particular piece, and we landed on this muted blue and warm white because they are so easy on the eyes. They ended up being colors that set the tone for the entire collection.
The twister design is so playful and is a great way to make a space feel more fun and youthful. I think that this piece also would make a great gift for the holidays if you have a young person in your life who would love to have this in their room.
Perfectly playful with the nubby texture that the entire collection has, and with its swirly twister pattern, this design is for you if you need to bring some life and lightness into your space.
monochrome in white
This design is definitely the most versatile of the collection because it can fit in with any space. It’s like the perfect plain white tee that you go back to again and again. It never gets old.
The subtle difference between the white circle in the middle and the warm white cream on the outside that matches with the rest of the collection makes this piece intriguing from up close and far away.
This design is meant to make any space just a little bit cozier with it’s unique texture. Keep it simple and classic. You can’t go wrong with monochrome in white.
Why you need fiber art in your home
One word: cozy. There is no other art out there that will bring coziness and texture into your space the way that fiber art will. It’s unlike anything else you own, it will complement the other art in your home beautifully, and will act as a conversation starter. The pieces in this collection were crafted and curated with each of those things in mind, because they are made to make your home feel special.
Fiber art and textiles are taking the art & design world by storm right now. Whether it’s a quilt wall hanging or a piece of tufted art, you are sure to be seeing it more and more in stores and on your Instagram feed. This resurgence of these mediums that have been around for ages is really inspiring. Kayli talks about her inspiration for this collection in an interview I did with her – learn more about why she loves fiber art here.
