Finding the best picture frames for your living room may seem trivial to some, but it’s not to me. Your living room is a sacred space in your home. It’s a place where you can unwind and relax at the end of a long day.
Every family photo, portrait, vintage film photo, amazing art piece, or napkin your kid drew on deserves a place where its memory can be held and framed with intention.
Putting something in a frame isn’t hard, but so often the thought process behind the whole thing stops us in our tracks when we think about adding new photos or art to our favorite living spaces. And I get it. You don’t want to mess it up (And neither do I! Procrastination is normal with this, it should be expected).
I’m going to share how to get the best picture frames for your living room โ from how to display your pictures, what size frames to get, and some favorite picture frames that you’ll love for your living room.

What’s the best way to hang up your picture frames in your living room?
Obviously the best way is however YOU like it best, but I am here to provide you with some guidance if you’re feeling stuck. My go-to tip is to create a gallery wall at home.
Don’t panic! I know that making your own gallery wall at home can feel very intimidating at first. It’s like, okay, but where do I start??
I love using gallery wall templates because they make the entire process so much easier. These are my favorite 5 gallery wall templates that give a visual map of how to arrange your gallery wall so that your frames are the right size and you know the exact layout you want.
Gallery walls are a beautiful way to display prints, photos, or a mixture of both. I love using digital art prints because they’re so affordable and easy to print out at home. I hand draw some myself that you can check out by clicking here to see the Garland Collections Digital Art Shop.
What size of frames to get?
Typically live by the rule that bigger is better. A large frame almost always enhances a space, whereas a frame that looks too small can detract from a beautiful space.
Bigger frames make your space feel bigger and add so much visual interest to a room. I have more specific size guides in my favorite gallery wall templates, but I love getting frames that are 8×10 inches, 12×16 inches, and 18×18 inches. And even bigger, too!
Where to shop for the best picture frames?
I have a few different favorite favorite places to shop for picture frames. Here I explain each place to buy the best frames and what they are good for.
Amazon
โ Quick, easy, convenient, great if you know exactly what you want โ
Amazon is certainly one of my favorite places to shop for frames because especially if you know exactly what you want, it’s perfect. I have a list of my favorite frames from Amazon, and they’re so good. They have some of the best prices and their frames look great when you hang them up.
Also, Amazon is so convenient, as we all know. It’s great if something comes broken or you need to do a return. Now you can just drop it off at a Whole Foods which makes the return process so easy.
Anthropologie
โ Good for shopping from a curated selection, unique pieces โ
Anthropologie is my go to if I want to frame a family photo or something personal and special. I like how unique their frames are, and there are so many unique choices.
A curated selection goes a long way, because nothing you pick out is going to look like crap, which sometimes can be a risk with other stores (sorry, but it’s true lol).
Target
โ Great simple affordable options, easy to shop in person โ
Target is my favorite place to shop for frames in person, because they have great options and such good prices. Like shockingly good.
You can find a lot of Crate & Barrel dupes at Target, and with their Jungalow lines that they’ve done with Justina Blakeney, there’s usually a cute, bohemian option as well.
Michael’s
โ Affordable, easy to shop in person, and great size selection โ
If you have a large print or something that you have specific needs for when it comes to the SIZE of your frame, Michael’s is the best place to shop in person. Hands down. Well, unless you go to a local frame store that does things custom. That’s also a great option.
West Elm
โ Perfect for an elegant gallery wall โ
Some of my favorite frames that we have in our house are from West Elm. They are sprinkled throughout most rooms, and take up a lot of wall real estate in the living room especially.
They look so elegant, and I never get tired of them. Definitely a pricier option, but they’re so good. And if you’re doing a gallery wall and need an option that’s a no brainer, West Elm frames are perfect.
Some of picture frames that you’ll love for your living room (these are some of the best frames from Amazon):
1. Modern set of 3 black frames โ 11×14 inch frame for 8×10 inch photos
Shop ON AMAZON
For a simple and contemporary look and feel, these thin black frames with a thick white matte are just right. They have a modern feel that can blend in with any design style because of how neutral and simple they are. They let whatever is inside be the star of the show.
2. Warm wood beveled frames โ 9×12 inch (or 11×14 inch) frames for 6×8 inch or 5×7 inch photos
Shop ON AMAZON
These warm wooden frames from Amazon are a dupe for my favorite frames from West Elm. They’re so pretty and add warmth to your living room. Plus, a set is so ideal for a gallery wall or to sprinkle the same frame in different rooms throughout your home. That’s a tip from a true pro (my mom).
3. Simple gallery wall set in black โ 12×12 inch frames for 8×8 inch photos
Shop ON AMAZON
Can’t help but love a gallery wall in a living room. These frames make it easy to put one together, or you can even use a few of these in your living room and save the rest for other rooms in your home to create a continuous feel throughout your home.
4. Simple gallery wall set in white โ 12×12 inch frames for 8×8 inch photos
Shop ON AMAZON
These white frames are so bright and help to bring light energy to your living room. They’re effortless and simple, and this gallery wall set makes it so easy to get a beautiful gallery wall effect.
5. Modern Gold Frame โ 12×16 inch frame for 8.5 x 11 inch picture
Shop ON AMAZON
I love this frame. It’s so timeless and brings a special feel to whatever you display inside. It’s one of my favorites to use in a gallery wall or hang on its own.
