Tufted wall art is an up and coming style that artists have been taking to entirely new places in this past year. Your wall decor may usually be in a frame, but tufted wall art is different. It is textural and usually made from yarn, giving it a soft and cozy quality to contribute to its unique aesthetic. There’s nothing else quite like it.
I first learned about tufting from my friend Kayli’s work. She started sharing her tufted art on her Instagram @studio__kb and I was hooked. As a result, I started learning more about fiber arts and different types of textile art. Quickly, I realized how special this type of art is. It’s been around for years, but it’s gaining new popularity.
In this post, we’ll talk about different tufted art that you will love, how you can incorporate it into your space, and the ways that it will elevate your unique personal style. You can find more inspiration for fiber art and textiles as well at the end of this post. Let’s get into it!
Tufted wall art that you will love
These examples of tufted art help to show how versatile tufting is, and how great these pieces look as wall decor.ย Most of these pieces are wrapped around a wooden canvas frame, so you hang them up the same way that you would hang up a painted canvas.
This first example is from Kayli at Studio KB. She told me that she used a special technique on this particular design that she hasn’t seen anyone else use. That’s part of what is so cool about tufted art โ artists can create their own techniques and styles that are unique and intriguing to the eye.
These are some more examples of what comes out of Studio KB. It’s so fun to see the different pieces spread out next to each other like this, because you can imagine how you could pair two together and hang them up next to each other on your wall.
Here’s another example of tufted art from Pinterest. You can see how this style is a little bit different from Kayli’s. Firstly, it uses different colors than most of her work. It also has a bit of a different texture, which is really interesting. Seeing the differences between the two helps you understand the artistic freedom that tufting can have.
Yet another example of tufted art that gives a different lens into the unique stitching, patterns, and colors that fiber artists can adopt with tufting. The pin below has a super unique and abstract pattern, and it’s also huge! You can see how textural this fiber art is, and how unique it makes any space feel.
As you can see, tufted art can come in many different forms. The pin below shows a tufted portrait. This is just one example of how artists are creating new styles with this medium.
Fiber art and textiles like this are becoming really trendy in the art and design world as well. Check out this blog post if you’re interested to learn why that is.
How to incorporate it into your space
Incorporating tufted art into your space may seem intimidating at first. Let me reassure you โ it’s easier than you may think. The first thing to keep in mind when you buy tufted art as wall decor is that you need a way to hang it up. Make sure that the tufted art you buy has a frame with a hook on the back, or some other obvious way that you can easily hang it on your wall.
The same way that you would go about finding an area on your walls to hang up framed artwork, find an area that would fit the tufted art well. It’s really nice when there are lines around the art that help “frame” the piece. For example, if it’s next to the edge of your wall and a window, the lines from the wall and window help to make it look like the art belongs there.
Mixing in tufted art with different mediums is a great way to incorporate it into your space. If you already have some art and photos around your room, but you have a little unused slice of wall left, that is a perfect spot! You can get tufted art of all different sizes, so you can find something that will fit nicely in that space you found. Lately, I have been loving Kayli’s work from Studio KB because her pieces are 4x4in, so you can easily fit them into your space.
Follow your intuition when you choose where to put your tufted art. Mix in a variety of other mediums (at least 2) to create a curated blend in your space. That’s how you can successfully incorporate tufted art in your space as wall decor.
The different ways that tufted wall art can elevate your space
One of the best aspects of incorporating tufted art into your space is that it compliments other art so well. It’s so pleasing to see different mediums of art hung up in the same room. Mixing in different mediums creates a unique feel and gives your walls a more timeless effect.
Another way that tufted art elevates your wall decor is because it is being made in so many different trendy patterns, and it is quite trendy itself right now. Typically, at Garland Collections we try to teeter on the boundary between trendy and timeless. It’s not worth it to get art that you won’t love in a few years, but it also is so much fun to get art that feels fresh and exciting to you.
Tufted art is definitely a fresh, new, and exciting way to add to the wall decor in your home. It’s contributing to this new classic style of creating spaces filled with texture and coziness, while including fine art and work by skilled artists. The new classic is a blend of modern and traditional, and it relies on having a variety of art and photos in your home that speak to you and tell the story of who you are.
This style of art adds so much to your space. Since fiber artists are creating their art in so many different ways, they are creating for many different styles. Finding colors and patterns that suit your unique taste is really fun because you get to browse through different options of tufted art and get curious about what you like.
Overall, tufted art elevates your space because there is nothing else like it. The uniqueness that this style of art has is still stunning to me. Pairing tufted art with paintings, prints, and photos is how you can style it on your walls and create an original and timeless aesthetic.
