Unique wall art for bedroom will make your space personal and homey. Creating an environment that you love spending time in takes some patience and thought. These tips will help you transform your bedroom into a space that is uniquely yours. There’s nothing better than feeling like you’re in a space that was made especially for you, and that’s exactly what these tips are all about.
As an art lover and curator here at Garland Collections, I spend most of my time thinking about how the art in your home can elevate your space and make you feel happier in it. I’m giving you the exact tips that I follow when curating art for a room!
This post is all about unique wall art for bedroom.
How to find the best unique wall art for bedroom
Tip #1: Play with scale
Take a look at the wall space that you have in your bedroom. One of your biggest advantages when you’re planning what wall art to put up is seeing what wall space you have to work with and choosing different sizes of art to create dynamic contrast throughout the room. No matter what aesthetic you have, playing with scale and changing up the size of the art in your space will make it look much more unique and personalized.
Start with the big stuff. Large wall art for bedroom is a great jumping off point โ find an area of your wall that could fit something on the larger side (3 feet by 3 feet, or even larger is the ballpark of what we’re talking about). Reserve that spot for something larger, and use the large work of art to help ground your space and set the tone for the color palette and style that you are going for.
For example, in my own bedroom I have a framed square print that is mostly blue. It fits pretty snugly where it is. But honestly, I really like how big it is and the way it looks in that spot.
It also helps to ground the space and also adds color, which I love. Now you can start to think about other wall areas in your room that you can add smaller art to. And this is fun, because you can go really small! Hanging up two little 4x4in pieces of art next to each other, or with one on top of the other is the perfect compliment to large wall art for bedroom.
Tip #2: Include different mediums
Having a variety of mediums of art in your bedroom will instantly elevate your space and make it look more curated and special. Paintings, prints, and photos may come to mind first when you think of wall art for bedroom, and those are great! There are so many more choices, though. Lately, fiber art and textiles have been so popular and I have to admit โ I am so here for it.
Tufted art is a medium that can add so much texture to your bedroom and make it feel really cozy and homey. Pairing two tufted art pieces together looks so cute. If you want to learn more about tufted art or fiber art, I have blog posts talking all about why fiber art is the next big art and design trend and a post talking specifically about tufted art. Clearly, I could talk about them all day! I love this style so much.
This tufted art in the photo below was made by my friend Kayli @studio__kb and I absolutely love her work. These squares could look so cute above your nightstand.
Having a variety of mediums is key to make your bedroom unique. I would recommend having at least three different mediums of art in your space if you want it to look well curated and unique.
Tip #3: Create vignettes with wall art and unique wall decor
Vignettes are a fancy word for curated, stylistic moments in your home. Like a chair with a throw blanket draped over it and a standing lamp to compliment it. Something small and simple that look wonderful together. Finding unique wall decor for bedroom can help you create beautiful vignettes in your space.
If you have an armchair in your bedroom (which, by the way, if you have room for you should definitely add!) you can use that as a place to start and create your first vignette. Draping a throw blanket over the back of the armchair and putting a throw pillow on it is a great starting point. Then if you have room, place some art on the wall above it!
Your nightstand is also a great opportunity to create a beautiful vignette. Adding a funky lamp, your favorite candle, a cute personal photograph, and then hanging some art right above it looks so good. I like how in the pin below the art is placed pretty close to the nightstand. Hanging your art too high can be a mistake. Make sure to hang your art pretty close to the furniture below it for a more editorial look.
Being intentional about placing art near your furniture and other decor in your bedroom will make vignettes start popping up all over the place. Have some fun with using things that you already have and love and mixing in new, unique wall art.
Tip #4: Play with texture
When it comes to finding unique wall art for bedroom, most people do not pay attention to texture. It’s not a bad thing if you don’t, but it can look so good if you do. And yes, I’m once again telling you to add textiles and fiber art to your home! Your bedroom is the perfect place to introduce the softness that fiber art has, especially if you haven’t explored decorating with fiber art before.
Quilts are one great way to add texture to a space because they add a softness to your room. The pin below is an example of a modern looking quilt. I love mixing old and new, and quilts are such a historically rich subject. This one in particular has a more modern design, which juxtaposes it against the medium that it is, which I think is so cool. And the colors are amazing!
Mixing in different textures with the art on your walls will make your space feel so unique and personal to you, because not many people take the time to do it.
Tip #5: Mix styles โ include unique modern wall art and classic wall art
Mixing styles is another sure way to elevate your space. Unique modern wall art is so beautiful and I love what it can bring into a space. There are many examples of unique modern wall art, but I love this framed piece of a quilt in the pin below because it is textural and elevates the space so much. Again, textiles have been around for a long time, but I love how this framed part of a quilt includes color blocking and is a unique way to display this kind of art.
The pin below is a great example of classic art styled in a built in bookshelf nightstand. Frames are one way that you can mix traditional and modern styles as well. You can put modern art in a more traditional frame or vice versa, and it can create a really unique effect.
You don’t need to pick one or the other โ you can do both modern and classic together! In fact, mixing styles makes it easier to create your own unique aesthetic because you are choosing your favorite art and decor from different styles. It gives a curated and unique look to your room.
Tip #6: Be playful and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone
Finding unique wall art for bedroom requires that you step out of your comfort zone and have some fun with the process. I know that this can be hard, because if you’re feeling stressed to just get art up on the walls, sometimes it doesn’t feel fun. I encourage you to slow down the process so that you can enjoy it and take your time with it.
Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t something that you want to be doing the entire time you’re choosing art for your bedroom, but it is something to do a little bit. Try picking out one work of art that you like but maybe would be a little too shy to actually get yourself. See how you like it in your space and go from there.
Tip #7: Pay attention to the story behind the art
Loving the art in your bedroom for a long time depends entirely on the personal connection that you have with the art. Often this connection comes from the artist’s story and learning more about their inspiration and their process with making the art. It is so fun to learn more about artists in this way and to create that genuine and unique connection with the art you have in your home.
Looking at something every day is so much better when you know the story behind it and feel connected to it in some way. That’s why paying attention to the story behind the art and taking the extra time to learn it is so worth it every time.
Curating unique wall art for your bedroom will make your bedroom the perfect place to recharge. The little things in your daily environment carry a big impact, and it’s so worth spending extra time to be intentional about what you look at every day.
