Make your living room unique and special by creating your own gallery wall โ here’s how:
Creating a gallery wall is one of the best ways to make your living room wall art feel unique. Honestly, I have always found gallery walls intimidating because it feels like figuring out a layout, which frames to get, and what art to put in the frames is too prone to going wrong.
That’s why I made these gallery wall templates. The templates come in a PDF file that’s completely free (all I ask for is your email address to deliver it to you). The PDF includes my 5 favorite gallery wall templates, and each template includes recommendations for frame sizes so that you have a foolproof way to make a gallery wall that you love.
Where to shop for unique wall art for your living room
Etsy
Etsy has amazing handmade items and original art that you can’t find anywhere else. Anyone can make a shop on Etsy and start selling, and that’s the beauty of it. It really democratizes selling art.
I’ve found some of my favorite art by browsing Etsy. I love looking for fiber art, punch needlework, woven wall hangings, digital art, and posters on there.
But when anyone can make an Etsy shop, it comes with a price. You can’t browse on Etsy without seeing things that you don’t like. It’s kind of like going to Marshall’s or TJ Maxx โ it’s so exciting when you find something amazing. It’s like finding a diamond in the rough!
But it isn’t always easy to do that, and it can be frustrating if that type of shopping experience isn’t for you, or simply isn’t what you’re looking for.
Tappan Collective
Tappan Collective is awesome because they source artwork from emerging artists and curate it for you. It’s like browsing through an online art gallery. Tappan allows you the opportunity to get to know the artists that they work with, which is really fun to do.
That makes it easier and more interesting to form a connection with the artist of the art hanging up in your living room, and turns it into a conversation piece.
They have an “Under $500” Collection that I really love to shop because it’s a little more budget friendly. Tappan makes the shopping experience feel very high-end since they go so deep with telling you the artists’ stories and sourcing really fantastic emerging artists. Their art is definitely more expensive, but I think it’s so worth it.
P.S. โ Another cool thing about Tappan Collective is that they will frame your art for you, so that it arrives ready to go up on your wall.
Saatchi Art
Saatchi Art is a great in between. It has some of the pros and cons that Etsy has, but it’s a little more elevated like Tappan is. It has a great selection of emerging artists, but it’s not quite as curated and selective as Tappan.
I have found some amazing local artists who sell their work on Saatchi Art, and I also have discovered new artists by browsing through their different collections.
Any of these sites can be overwhelming when you don’t have a clue where to start. I totally get that, and personally prefer to shop from a curated list. It makes it so much easier to browse and find things you know you’ll like.
I put together a few wall art ideas from these shops below, and if you browse the wall art category on the blog you’ll find even more there as well. You can shop digital art, wall art for your bedroom, and more there.
Here are a few wall art ideas (to include in your gallery wall or to hang on their own):
1. Flower Digital Art by DreamDigitalPrintArt
Buy on Etsy
This abstract flower art is so cool and interesting. With its subtle pastel color palette, it balances its coolness with gentle beauty. And one of the main selling points of this artwork is that it is a digital art print. A digital art print usually is delivered in the form of a PDF, and it’s a file that has the art on it so that you can print it out at home and frame right then and there.
If you’re interested in digital art prints be sure to check out the Garland Collections Digital Art Gallery!!! I sell my own original art there ๐
2. Pintail Duck Lino Cut Print by Firebrand Press
Buy on Etsy
This pintail duck print is so elegant and precious. Lino cut prints are one of my favorite ways to add unique wall art to my home because they always have so much character. You can really see where the artist’s hands were, which gives the piece a lot of personality.
3. Houses of Individuality 05 by Jan Prengel
Buy on Tappan Collective
Good photography can be hard to find these days, and this work of art speaks for itself. It tells a story and reminds me of places I’ve been and places I want to go. This is such a sophisticated photography piece that would add so much to your living room.
4. Red Bloom Diptych by Marleigh Culver
Buy on Tappan Collective
A diptych is perfect for a smaller slice of wall, and this one is graphic, modern, and interesting! I love it. The organic, botanical shapes plus the simple color palette pack a punch. I really enjoy so much of Marleigh Culver’s work and this piece is so exception.
5. Youthful Summer Painting by Alissa Kim Tjen
Buy on Saatchi Art
This is a gorgeous landscape painting that captures the essence of summer. The light reflecting on the water is so beautifully done โ it is not easy to paint water! And the surrounding trees are depicted so wonderfully as well. This is a piece that will add a dreamy quality to your living room and transport you to a beautiful summer memory every time you look at it.
6. Red on Edge Painting by Michelle Daisley Moffitt
Buy on Saatchi Art
This painting is so fun, colorful, playful, and graphic. It has a lot going on, which is perfect for a living room that needs a little something extra to tie it all together. The patterns and colors make this piece stand out in the best way.
