Creating a unique feel in your space is part of what makes it feel like it’s your space. Having unique wall art helps you explore your sense of personal style with design and create your own unique ~vibe~ (for lack of a better word) in your space. This post is all about unique wall art ideas to help you make your space your own.
Let these unique wall art ideas inspire you to make the change you need in your own space so that you can feel like who you are is reflected in where you live. Feeling at home in your space is not as easy as it sounds, and these ideas are meant to help you cultivate that feeling.
This post is all about unique wall art ideas. We’ll talk about ideas for decor to go with your wall art. We’ll go over different mediums for your wall art that can make your space look really interesting. And there will be tips sprinkled in along the way to help you out as we go. Let’s get into it!
1. Make an eclectic gallery wall
Making an eclectic gallery wall is a really fun way to gather up quite a bit of art and display it all together. Things don’t have to match perfectly, but if having some structure helps you to get started, you can create a color palette so that you know the overall theme to your gallery wall.
Tip: Make sure that your frames all go together, because that makes it easier to mix and match your wall art.
Choosing three different styles of frames is a great place to start with your gallery wall. You can always add in a completely unique frame here or there as well, but knowing what style of frame you are going for helps a lot. For example, the frames in the pin above all are modern and are either white, black, or natural wood.
2. Try a quilt wall hanging
Hanging up a quilt is such a unique way to add art to your space. Quilts are a very historical medium that is so so sooo underrated. There are so many beautiful quilts that deserve a wall all to themselves.
Tip: Explore the amazing world of textile art. Hanging up quilts or other textiles on your walls brings unique warmth and softness into your space.
If you’re curious about modern quilt art, I wrote a blog post all about it so that you can get inspiration for hanging up quilt art in your home. You also can check out the Garland Collections Pinterest board that’s completely dedicated to quilts.
3. Explore tufted punch needle art
Tufted art, or punch needle art, is trending right now. It is everywhere, and I have no complaints. The unique, nubby texture that you get in tufted art is not something that you really see in art anywhere else. You can find many different shapes, sizes, and styles in tufted art.
There are many different forms of tufted art, which makes it even more fun to explore and find something that uniquely speaks to you. Search “tufted art” or “punch needle art.” You can really do a deep dive into this medium.
Tip: include art that has unique textures on your walls โ you will be amazed by how much their texture brings to a room.
4. Create a vignette with your wall art
I love this book stacking idea! It looks so good with the wall sconce and the art. Any time you hang up wall art, I find it super helpful to ground that art with furniture under it or to have a rug on the ground near it, a stack of books like this, there are endless ways to add some decor to the area your art is. It makes it a little vignette that tells its own story about your home.
Tip: Place your wall art among other details in your home to create a moment of beauty you can stare at all day long.
5. Frame a vintage film photo from your favorite city
Using one of your favorite places is a great place to get inspiration for wall art that speaks to you and who you are. Finding an old, vintage film photo is a great way to add personality to your wall art.
Tip: When you use your own interests and loves as inspiration, you’d be surprised how many unique wall art ideas will come to mind!
You also could look for maps of your favorite city. Maps can be really beautiful and they’re a great way to add a graphic look to your wall art.
6. Discover a new favorite illustration artist
Some of my favorite wall art is done by illustration artists because they have a loose, romantic quality to their drawings. I find it very easy to get lost in an illustration.
Tip: Find artists with loose sketches that pull you in and make you daydream. A sketch can be such a beautiful piece of unique wall art.
You can browse different art on the Pinterest โ I have a board dedicated to Art and Art Inspiration, so check those out if you need a place to start! I was surprised how much I would pin the same artists over and over again.
7. Learn more about a new medium like fiber art
Wow! Fiber art is really fun. Fiber art is kind of like tufted art. Well firstly, tufted art falls within the larger category of fiber art. Secondly, fiber art adds a lot of unique texture and dimension to a space. If you’re looking for something a little bit more sculptural to hang on your walls, fiber art is a great place to start looking.
You might be surprised by what you find! There are so many different types of fiber art out there. Many different artists have their own approach to the medium. I love learning more about unique mediums like this. It helps me find unique wall art that I really love.
Tip: There are so many types of three dimensional art that you can hang on your walls, and fiber art is one of them. Don’t shy away from mediums you’ve never even heard of before.
8. Hang up unique plates as wall art
Don’t be afraid to bend the rules! What counts as wall art in your home is completely up to you. I love ceramics. Typically, you see ceramics on furniture or around the house. Not so much on the walls. But when you have something flatter, like a plate, there’s no reason why you can’t hang that up as wall art, too.
Tip: Ceramics are a beautiful way to add art to your space. If you have flat ceramic art pieces like plates or tiles, you can hang them up on your wall, too. because why not?
Hanging up artful ceramics on the wall is eye catching and a great way to enhance your space. You can find really beautiful pottery and ceramics on Etsy and at local pottery studios.
9. Find a painting of your favorite produce
Produce makes for a very vibrant subject in a painting or even a print. I was going to try to convince you why you need fruit on your walls, but truthfully the decision is yours. I’m not going to say you’re more fun if you own fruit paintings, but you’re more fun if you own fruit paintings.
Tip: There are so many paintings and prints of food, so why not have one of your favorites on your walls and in your mouth?
